Vic Campbell's Farm
On November 5th several classmates drive to the Old Tyme Farm Days. We present Coach Campbell with a print of Avondale High School. Coach Campbell taught Physics and Chemistry for two years. After Avondale, he enrolled in the Medical School in Charleston, SC. He became an Orthopedic Surgeon and started a practice in Greenville, SC. Today he consults two days each week.
Old Tyme Farm Days has been held for 35 years. Vic Campbell and wife Gail Woodbury (Avondale Class of 55) host the event. Originally Gail did all the cooking, but crowds got quickly out of hand.
There are Farm animals to pet, live music, barbecue, hot dogs, boiled peanuts, hay rides, covered wagon rides, pony rides and several kinds of beans cooked in 15 gallon pots over an open fire. This event also had a lot of hands on booths such as; A cow set up for kids to milk, an apple press to make apple cider, a cane press for making cane syrup, sheering sheep and making scarves and a hand crank grinder for making grits. All of these machines were in use and you could "Make your own" to take home.
For the past several years it was to be the last, but it continues on.
