Anne Honeycutt
1943-04-26 2033-06-09Anne Walker Powell Honeycutt died on June 9, 2023 in Bloomington. She was born on April 26, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA to Robert Jackson Powell and Elizabeth Bailie Powell. After a brief time, the family moved south, settling in Avondale Estates, GA where Anne and her sisters led an idyllic life. Anne could often be found in a backyard tree with a book, and her love of books never ended. She majored in English at King College, where she met Kent. They married in 1964 and started their family in Bloomington where Kent took a job as a professor.
When Anne and Kent married, they acquired a nativity for their first Christmas. Over the years that collection multiplied and many of her nativities were displayed at her church and the Monroe County History Center. Anne was a volunteer most of her life. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was a devoted servant and was once honored by Presbyterian Women as a Woman of the Year. For 30 years she volunteered with the American Red Cross / Hoosier Hills Food Bank sorting donated books. She worked for the IU Alumni Association writing class notes and obituaries for the magazine. She retired in 2005, at the same time as Kent. In retirement they traveled and especially loved to visit Michigan and their grandchildren. Anne and her sisters lived hundreds of miles apart as adults but still found great pleasure in sharing the experiences of parenthood, grandparenthood, and growing older.
Survivors include her beloved husband Kent Honeycutt, sons Kyle Honeycutt (Tara Little) of St. Louis, MO, Todd Honeycutt (Jupy) of Holland, MI, and grandchildren Grant, Zachary, and Jana Honeycutt. Also surviving are Anne's sisters and brothers-in-law, Leisa and Paul Pedone of Morgantown, WV, and Nancy and Bill Wadsworth of Salem, AL, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial gifts can be made to First Presbyterian Church or Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
A service of celebration of Anne's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Bloomington on Saturday, June 17 at 2:00 P.M.
