Comment:
After Avondale, I got a job with a surgical supply house. I met my future wife, Kathy shortly after. We married in November of 1963 the week following John Kennedy's was assassination. I changed jobs to 3M Company and worked with Judy Kyle and Nancy Puckett before and after the military (Nov. 1966 to Nov. 1968.) In 1970, I started work at Arkwright Insurance Company a large property underwriter. While at Arkwright, I attended Georgia State University and received my BBA. After graduation, we were transferred to Charlotte, NC as an Account Executive. Early one morning I went to the 7/11 for a Sunday paper. As I pulled up and looked inside, I saw a person who was either Glen Campbell or Harry Glenny. It turned out to be Harry. Harry and Carol (Warren) lived just a few houses from ours. For the five years we had some great times fishing offshore and camping together. We moved back to Atlanta in 1977 then to Houston in 1979 for 14 years. We committed to taking advantage of the city. Close by in Spring, TX there was a place that seated about 100 people. Wunsche Bros. Café featured rising talent like Lyle Lovett and Clint Black and others like Jerry Jeff Walker. In 1983 I developed an interest in computers and served for 5 years on the companied committee to move from mainframes to PCs. During this time we were fortunate to travel to Europe. We also sponsored a number of exchange students and are still friends with them today and communicate on Face Book. After 20 years of sales and travel, we moved back to Atlanta to be closer to family and old friends. I headed a special project to advance database and desktop publishing technology. When it became clear a move to the Boston Home Office was in the future, we parted ways. I decided to start a company focused on technology for small businesses. I work with small database solutions and several industry specific web sites related to construction and insurance. Kathy actually work for the successor company for ten years before retiring to make chocolate. We are fortunate that our two sons also moved back to Atlanta. They and their families live near us in the Gainesville area. I enjoy golfing with old friends and boating on Lake Lanier when there is water. |
